Magnesium Oil and Magnesium Bath Crystals Questions and Answers

Question: How much magnesium oil do I use? How much of the magnesium bath crystals do I use?

A: This is a very common question and the answer is not a simple one. It depends on the person and what they are using it for. Are they dealing with an illness, an injury, or just looking for a daily magnesium supplement?

Using magnesium oil or bath crystals as a daily magnesium supplement is the easiest to figure out but really you can determine how much you need by the changes you will see (better mood, better sleep, more energy, etc.) We recommend 3 – 6 sprays on the chest area every morning and 3 – 6 sprays on the tops and bottoms of your feet at night, 30 minutes before you go to bed. As for how much of the crystals you want to use, that will be determined by you. We recommend starting out with a ½ cup of crystals and each bath after your initial bath use more or less to get the results you desire.

For injuries or arthritis, we like to use a “wrap” technique (click here for our instructional “wrap” video). Saturate a paper towel or 2 with magnesium oil. Place the paper towel on the problem area. Using household kitchen wrap firmly wrap the paper towel to the problem area. Be careful not to make the wrap too tight or you can cut off your circulation. The wrap will do 3 things. It will keep the towel moist, keep it in place, and will allow a time-release effect.

For areas on the body that can’t be wrapped: Rub (1 tsp – 1 oz), spray (6 – 10), or soak (1/4 – 8 cups in the tub) as needed.

Illnesses are the toughest to know how much magnesium oil or crystals to use and it is best to have a healthcare professional guide you in how much to use. Feel free to call us for our recommendation for your specific illness.

Q: Can I use too much magnesium oil? Can I use too much magnesium crystals?

A: There is always a chance of using too much of anything. When it comes to magnesium oil, getting too much is hard to achieve. 80% of the people that use magnesium oil are deficient in magnesium. What we have seen is people using it as needed to rebuild their magnesium levels and, 99% of the time, not seeing any adverse effects. Some side effects to be aware of when getting too much are: nausea, vomiting, severely lowered blood pressure, slowed heart rate or kidney pain. The most common sign of too much magnesium is upset stomach and/or diarrhea. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop using the magnesium oil for a day or 2 and start back with a lesser dosage. If any of these side effects continue for more than 24 hours, see your doctor.

Q: Can I ingest or drink Mangesoothe’s Magnesium Oil?

A: Magnesoothe will not kill you if it is ingested. However, we are required to tell you that it is for external use only and should never be ingested. If you were to ingest or drink Magnesoothe, it would most likely cause you to have diarrhea and a severe upset stomach.

Magnesoothe is best used on the skin and if used regularly, you will absorb plenty of Magnesium and other trace minerals for your body.

Q: Does your magnesium oil contain mercury, lead, arsenic, etc?

A: All magnesium oil and magnesium bath crystals come from a sea or ocean source so they will all contain trace amounts of mercury, lead and arsenic. The question you need answered is how much? I can not speak for other companies but we take pride in how “clean” our magnesium oil is and how we produce it. Before we filter it, our raw material/minerals goes through a proprietary process that removes most of the unwanted elements that you find in sea water (ex: ammonia, mercury, lead, cadmium. etc.). However, there will always be trace amounts of these element left behind when making magnesium oil. In Magnesoothe Magnesium Oil we find mercury, lead, cadmium & arsenic to be under 0.033ppm (parts per a million). To help put this amount into perspective, for one, seafood contains 10 times this amount, and two, compare that to the magnesium found in Magnesoothe is about 41,665ppm in Magnesoothe Magnesium Oil.

When it comes to our Crystals, they are a concentrated form of the magnesium oil and their numbers are a little different. Mercury, lead, cadmium & arsenic is found to be under 0.1ppm (5x less than what is found in seafood) and magnesium is at 125,000ppm.

Q: Where does Magnesoothe’s magnesium oil come from? How do you get it and how is it processed?

A: Magnesoothe’s magnesium oil comes from the Dead Sea and we pay a company to import the raw materials directly from Israel. The company that sources the raw minerals from the Dead Sea pumps water from the Deep Northern Basin and uses a natural (solar) evaporation process to separate most of the ammonia and the sodium chloride and a few other minerals that aren’t needed in the finished product.

Once we receive the raw minerals we blend them back together using low heating (under100°) proprietary process and then filter the final product through a 4 stage system to make sure that there are no impurities.

Q: How long will it take to rebuild your magnesium levels?

A: There are many different methods to increase your cellular levels of magnesium and depending on the person’s body and the way they are supplementing will determine how quickly their levels will rise. You can also visit www.exatest.com for information on checking your cellular levels of magnesium.

Q: Will magnesium oil upset my stomach or cause diarrhea?

A: There is always a chance of any product, magnesium or not, having a chance of upsetting a person’s stomach. It just depends on the person’s body. However, our magnesium oil should not cause any intestinal problems because of the way it works. Since it is absorbed through the skin the body does not have to process it through the digestive system. On the other hand, if the body determines that your digestive system is low on magnesium then it may get directed to that area of the body and could result in some minor discomfort.

We have supplied thousands of people with our product and I have only heard of one or two of them having problems with it affecting their digestive system.

Q: Why don’t you have Magnesoothe magnesium gel?

A: In the beginning we started working on a gel and quickly found a few problems. The first problem we found was that we would have to mark up the price to offset the extra manufacturing cost. We also learned that the gelling agent can inhibit or decrease the absorption of the good magnesium and minerals. Lastly, the gelling agent decreases the products shelf life.

There are only 2 reasons why people prefer a magnesium gel. One is that it is easier to apply and two it stays on longer. We have solutions for both of those issues and they don’t cost our customers any extra money.

In 2010 we released some product updates. One of the updates was that all of our 8oz bottles have a finger pumped, fine mist sprayer for easier application (substantially better than gel). As for getting magnesium oil to stay on longer, we have 2 solutions. The first one gives you a time release effect and is an easy household application that is much more effective than using a gel. Soak a paper towel with Magnesoothe and wrap it around the desired area (click here for our instructional “wrap” video). Then take kitchen wrap and wrap it around the soaked paper towel. You can leave this application on for up to 8 hours. We have seen amazing results when using the wrap method.

At the end of 2010, we came out with our 2nd and most popular solution, a magnesium oil body cream that is infused with Arnica. This product has a handful of natural ingredients and has been found to be much more effective than magnesium gel. See our “Magnesoothe Body Cream” page or  “Product Details” for more information.

Q: What are the ingredients in Magnesoothe magnesium oil?

A: Please see our “What’s in Magnesoothe” page for a detailed description of what is found in Magnesoothe and what the body uses it for.

Q: How do I become a distributor of Magnesoothe products?

A: It’s a very simple process. Just e-mail us at info@magnesoothe.com to let us know you are interested. We will respond with a simple application that you will need to fill out the questions that apply to you. If you are a small company or just an individual, some of the questions may not apply. E-mail it or fax it back to us. We will then verify that you are not in one of our already established distributor’s territories and e-mail you a confidential distributor’s price-list. After that, you are ready to order.

Q: Why magnesium oil from the Dead Sea and not another source?

A: There are many reasons why we have chosen the Dead Sea as our source for magnesium but here are just a few:
1) The Dead Sea contains more than 21 macro minerals in addition to dozens of trace minerals.
2) The Dead Sea has the highest concentrations of chloride, bromide, calcium, silica, sodium, and potassium of any natural body of salt water in the world. Let’s not forget magnesium, the body’s master mineral. The water from the Dead Sea contains 40 times more magnesium than any other body of water on earth.
3) Medical research and many studies have proven the usefulness of Dead Sea mud and salts in treating and preventing diseases such as psoriasis, acne, and rheumatism.
4) The mineral make-up of the Dead Sea has been found to be equivalent to the human skin.
5) Due to its extreme mineral content, there are no plants, seaweed, moss, fish, or any other creatures living in the water and provides a much cleaner source.

Are Magnesium Bath Crystals Safe for Septic Systems or Plumbing?
This question comes up from time to time and in our 7 years of being in the magnesium bath crystals business, We’ve never heard of any issues arising from using magnesium bath crystals with septic systems or causing any complications with plumbing.  We have also, never seen any data that would suggest that using magnesium bath crystals with septic systems or standard home plumbing would be a problem. However, there are many different septic systems out there so we can’t 100% guarantee that frequent or prolonged use of magnesium bath crystals wouldn’t affect certain septic systems. If you have any concerns we recommend you doing further research on this based on your specific septic system.
